Copenhagen Fashion Week is about to kick-off and we hooked up with local DJ-Hero, Ludvig “Lou Van” Larsen to get an idea of what the Copenhagen Fashion Week sounds like.
From the underground to the more high fashioned clubs – you will most certainly find Lou Van playing on a night out in Copenhagen. As a DJ and producer, he has always had his focus on the dance floor friendly beats and sound, we took a stroll with him around the national bank in central Copenhagen to get his take on the sound of fashion week in the Danish Capital.
B&O PLAY: “What do you listen to, to get pumped for Fashion Week?”
Lou Van: “I usually tend to listen to a lot of mixtapes/podcasts. Because of the unbroken flow of the songs mostly. On Soundcloud there is a a lot of great channels with new mixtapes every week – a site called Spirit Soul among others is one of my favorites.”

B&O PLAY: How do you discover new music?
Lou Van: "Actually through the mixtapes i listen to. I also receive a lot of promo’s from labels around the world – a big part of me DJ’ing is about playing the tunes no one else has yet."
B&O PLAY: What’s the mood during Fashion Week?
Lou Van: "It really depends on where i am playing. For the shows the musical mood is usually laid back and cool in its mood. But for the show afterparties – as a DJ you really need to bring your a-game to set the party off and create the right mood. Mostly because a Fashion Week is a mixture of danish and people from outside of Denmark – the cultural mix is huge, and so the music needs to be as well!"
B&O PLAY: How do you prepare your sets?
Lou Van: "I actually don’t prepare sets for when im DJ’ing in clubs, i download the music i like, throw it on my USB sticks and react directly to the crowd when i’m playing. As a DJ you can never foresee how a party will turn out, so pre-prepped sets with a “set-list” has never been my kind of doing things."
B&O PLAY: Besides all the perks, what’s the most annoying part about being a DJ?
Lou Van: "Definitely when someone is agressive towards me, for not having a certain track or not being able to reply while in a mix. “Hey girl, i’m working – get off my back!” I still love my job though and every single time im out playing im grateful for being able to live of what i love the most – making and playing music!"
B&O PLAY: What’s the difference between a regular saturday and a saturday during fashion week?
Lou Van: "The big difference must be the clothes – because people really dress more up for the occasion during fashion week, so the energy level is really high. Fashion and music has always, in my opinion, been extremely symbiotic, so when people dress up, i need to do my best as well with the music i play."
