B&O PLAY x Hospital Records

We’re teaming up with the pioneering UK electronic music label, Hospital Records. Tomorrow, Saturday 23 September, we’ll be supporting them at their Hospitality In The Park event in Finsbury Park, London.

In the beginning

Independent London based Hospital Records was started by musicians Chris Goss and Tony Colman in 1996. At the time Colman was playing with the street-soul/jazzfunk band IZIT and Goss had been working in the legendary Soho record shop, Soul Jazz. The two had been working together for a few years before, and in different musical genres, but Hospital helped focus their drum and bass output, a scene that was just then starting to explode in UK clubs and underground venues.

It was the Colman and Goss duo, London Elektricity’s “Song In The Key of Knife”, released in 1998, that gained them wide traction with die-hard dance music fans and the electronic music circuit. A year later they released a full length album Pull The Plug which consolidated their reputation

Then in 2000, the label expanded their activities to include the first of many compilations to come, Out Patients. Shortly after, they starting adding and growing their artist roster: Tim Land aka Landslide, whose Drum+Bossa tapped into new audience from the jazz, breakbeat and 2-step scenes; Danny Byrd, Link Barrett, aka High Contrast, and they’ve been growing ever since.

Make Beautiful Music

On Saturday 23 September Hospital Records temporarily decamps from their Forest Hill HQ in South London and will make the journey north to Finsbury Park for their annual outdoor dance music event, Hospitality in the Park – featuring the London Elektricity Big Band, Roni Size, Danny Byrd and more, 11:00–22:30.

Here at B&O PLAY we teamed up with the label and their artists to help support the festival as well as their label artists make beautiful music (as well as help festival goers in the serious task of partying ).
